The newly appointed Commissioner and Administrator of Thane Municipal Corporation Saurabh Rao is a 2003 batch officer of Indian Administrative Service. Before joining Thane, he was working as Cooperative Commissioner in Pune. Rao hails from Uttar Pradesh. He has completed his Masters in Political Science from Lucknow University. He then served as an officer in the state service in Uttar Pradesh as well as in the Indian Police Service.

In 2003, Rao joined the Indian Administrative Service. Started administrative service in Wardha district in 2004 as Additional Collector. After that, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Gondia Zilla Parishad, Collector of Nandurbar, Commissioner of Solapur Municipal Corporation and Collector of Nagpur. He has worked as Collector, Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation, Commissioner of Sugar, Divisional Commissioner of Pune. Before coming to Thane, he was working as Cooperative Commissioner.

“The state government has given me the important responsibility of Thane city. On the basis of my administrative experience till now, I will try to develop this city in such a way that it will be a good city to live in, equipped with modern facilities. While doing this, the day-to-day lifestyle of citizens, obstacles i.e. transportation, water issue, drainage, encroachment will be mainly focused on. An action plan of what is required to develop the city in the next 25 years will be prepared. In it, urgent, medium-term and long-term important issues will be determined”, said Commissioner Rao.


Commissioner Rao also explained that the participation of the citizens, especially the young generation, will be taken to make the city environmentally friendly and carbon neutral. Commissioner Rao also expressed his belief that with the support of effective public representatives, positive media and conscious citizens, the Thane Municipal Corporation will take a successful course.
