In a recent address at the Mumbai office of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the party's chief, Sharad Pawar, delivered a scathing critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its alleged abuse of power. Pawar emphasized the urgent need to remove the BJP from power and called for a unified opposition to achieve this goal.

Misuse of Power by BJP

A report in the Hindustan Times mentioned that Pawar pointed out that the BJP government had been consistently accused of misusing its authority, particularly in its efforts to suppress political opposition. Citing specific instances, he referred to the imprisonment of several ministers from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, the unjust incarceration of an AAP MP, and a controversial search conducted at the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. These actions, he argued, warranted a collective and determined response to remove the current government from power.

Weakening BJP Influence

In his address, Pawar acknowledged that the BJP's influence was limited in several states, with exceptions in strongholds like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. He anticipated a further reduction in the BJP's influence following the upcoming elections in five states. Pawar called for collective action to strengthen the position of the opposition parties and challenge the dominance of the BJP in these elections.

Law and Order Issues in Maharashtra

Additionally, Pawar criticized the Eknath Shinde-led state government, specifically addressing the issue of law and order in Maharashtra. He questioned the wisdom of recruiting police officers on a contractual basis for only 11 months and highlighted the detrimental impact of such practices on the preservation of reservation policies. He pointed out that the state government had admitted in the legislative assembly that over 19,553 girls and women had gone missing in Maharashtra within a short span of time, underscoring a significant law and order problem in the state.

NCP's Legal Battle and Popular Support

Regarding the ongoing legal dispute over NCP leadership and its symbol, Sharad Pawar expressed confidence in the party's enduring position in the hearts and minds of the people. He stressed that the NCP's stance was firmly rooted in ideology and truth, which he believed would ultimately garner support and validation from the public.

Leadership Transition in NCP

In a separate development, under Sharad Pawar's leadership, the NCP announced a significant leadership change. Former Mumbai corporator Rakhi Jadhav was appointed as the new Mumbai chief of the party, replacing MLA Nawab Malik, who had recently been released on bail in a money laundering case. Jadhav, a three-term corporator from Ghatkopar and the former group leader of the party in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), took on this influential role within the NCP.
