After proposing to rename South Mumbai’s Malabar Hill area as ‘Ramnagari’, Shiv Sena corporator Dilip Lande failed to attend the meeting for discussing the proposal that he tabled earlier. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) scheduled the discussion in its house on Friday.

According to sources, Lande was present in the BMC building before the commencement of the meeting but did not attend the same. It is being said that Shiv Sena doesn’t want this proposal to go ahead.

However, Kurla corporator Lande cited that he had to rush home for personal reasons and thus, he was unable to attend the meeting. Lande further informed that he will seek permission from the top authorities in the civic body to take up the proposal in the next meeting.

Lande had proposed to change the name of city’s poshest area to ‘Ramnagari’ based on the Indian mythology that Lord Ram stayed at existing Malabar Hill while on his way to rescue his wife, Sita.
