Shiv Sena has supported the cancellation of question hour in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. The central government’s move to drop question hour has been opposed by the opposition which has said that this is a threat to India’s democracy.

However, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said that everyone needs to understand that this decision has been taken in view of the emergency situation due to the coronavirus outbreak. He, however, said that the opposition has other platforms to raise questions.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretaries issued a notification stating that there will be no question hour and the Zero hour will be confined. It also said that no private members’ bill will be entertained in the upcoming monsoon session.

“We need to understand that there will be no question hour during the monsoon session as this is an emergency situation and the opposition should not criticise it,” Raut said while talking to the media.

He also said that due to the coronavirus situation, the monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislature will also be held only for two days.

Meanwhile, the opposition in Maharashtra has united against the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to demand the reopening of religious places. Opposition parties including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) have even protested against the state government.

Reacting to this, Raut on Thursday said that the state government intends to reopen the temples in Maharashtra after full preparations. Although Raut said that the state government has no desire to keep the temples closed, he pointed out that the rising COVID-19 cases should be kept in mind.

Raut said that the opposition parties and leaders have the right to discuss with the Chief Minister and there was no need to take the matter to the streets. Raut said that the state government doesn’t desire to keep the temples shut and will take a decision after full preparations.
