On June 4, 2018, state health minister Deepak Sawant submitted his resignation to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
It is believed that Sawant resigned because Shiv Sena did not nominate him but Vilas Potnis to contest the next Maharashtra legislative council (MLC) election from the seat. Sawant is a legislator from Graduate constituency, Maharashtra.
The election for the MLC seat of Graduate constituency will take place on June 25, 2018, and counting will be done on June 28, 2018.
For now, the CM Fadnavis has put Sawant's resignation on hold and has asked him to attend cabinet meeting as his term is ending next month.
