Day after Bombay High Court allowed him to be a party in Kangana Ranaut’s petition, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday backed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on its decision to demolish Kangana’s office in Bandra. He said that the civic body has the right to demolish an “illegal” construction.

On September 9, the BMC had demolished a part of Kangana’s office in Pali Hill citing illegal structure violations. However, the Bombay HC had stayed the demolition process after Kangana filed a petition through her lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui.

Recently, the Bombay HC ordered Raut and the designated officer from BMC to be a party to the case filed by Bollywood Actress Kangana Ranaut challenging the demolition of her office by the civic body.

Reacting to this, Raut termed the move to make him a party in the plea filed by Kangana Ranaut as “laughable”. The Shiv Sena MP said that court cases were not new for him and he would fight it in the court.

“Kangana's office construction was illegal. The petitioner should keep in mind that if any illegal construction has taken place, BMC has the right to demolish it. Because BMC is an independent organisation. We can’t decide on demolishing a building that violates the rules,” Raut said.

Raut, who is in Delhi for the ongoing monsoon session, alleged that there was a “well-planned” conspiracy to discredit Mumbai and Maharashtra.

Kangana has amended her petition before the Bombay HC seeking for damages worth ₹2 crores. However, the BMC filed an affidavit in the court opposing Kangana’s plea. Labelling the petition as “abuse of the process of law”, the civic body said that Kangana’s petition should be dismissed with costs.
