Apart from his supporters and admirers, the leaders from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) jumped in to defend Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood after he was criticised by Shiv Sena.

Sood has been in the limelight for his efforts to reunite stranded migrant workers and labourers from their families. In Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, Sanjay Raut raised questions over the creditability of Sood’s campaign and said that he was being backed by the BJP to create an image that Maharashtra government was not doing anything for the migrants.

BJP

However, BJP slammed Raut for his comments on Sonu Sood. BJP leader Ram Kadam said that the remarks made by Raut in his column were “unfortunate” and “condemnable” while stating that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has failed on various fronts during COVID-19 crisis.

“The Maharashtra government has failed in handling the COVID-19 outbreak in the state. If the government won’t do its work and when an actor like Sonu Sood comes out on road to help people with his own money, the Shiv Sena makes false claims against him. This is unfortunate,” Ram Kadam said in a video message.

MNS

MNS leader Ameya Khopkar also lashed out at Raut for his remarks saying that what else has he done except for writing an editorial in ‘Saamana’. Khopkar further stated that the work done by Sood needs appreciation.

“Show a big heart and appreciate the good work. Anyway, I don’t expect anything else from you except crying,” the MNS leader tweeted.

NCP

Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) - one of the three alliance partners in the MVA - didn’t comment on Raut’s column but lauded Sood for his work. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that anyone who takes such good initiates will be appreciated.

“I don’t know what Sanjay Raut has said but we will appreciate those taking such good initiatives. Be it Sood or someone else,” Deshmukh said.

Congress

Moreover, senior Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said that Sonu Sood did extraordinary work during the crisis by helping migrant workers. “Instead of honouring him with a big heart, Shiv Sena being a ruling party is criticising him. Sena should not stoop to this level to hide its failure in handling migrants’ crisis,” he tweeted.

Another leader from the Congress, Kripashankar Singh also backed Sood and said that the one who helps the poor should be appreciated.
