Among other things, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut is known for writing firebrand opinions in his party’s mouthpiece ‘Saamana’. Raut, the executive editor of ‘Saamana’, in his Sunday column ‘Rokhtok’ labelled Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood as a stooge of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that he is likely to be the future star campaigner of the saffron party.

Sood has been getting unparalleled media coverage and praises for his efforts to reunite the stranded migrant workers and labourers with their families. The actor was earlier invited by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for assisting stranded migrants.

Reacting to this, Raut stated that Maharashtra chief secretary Ajoy Mehta should prepare a detailed list of people and organisation working tirelessly during coronavirus crisis but don’t have the political backing to promote their work.

Raut said that the Sood’s campaign was deliberate and was backed by the BJP to create an image that the Maharashtra government was not doing anything for the migrant workers.

However, the criticism made by the Shiv Sena leader has not gone down well with Sood’s supporters and admirers. Raut’s assessment of Sood’s work has invited a huge backlash against the Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra government.

“Politicians can't stand someone else doing the work they should have done,” one of the Twitter users wrote while another added, “even if there is a political motive, he is a hero, for all the good work he has done.”

Another twitter user mocked Raut for his statement that there was a political director behind Sood’s effort to help migrants. “I fell off laughing every time when this man speaks he should try for stand up comedy may make fortune than he made in politics (sic),” he said.

Actor Rohit Bose Roy also jumped in to support Sood and said, “While most of us just sit in our Ac rooms and discuss the state of affairs in the country, a few like @SonuSood continue in their endeavour relentlessly and diligently.. more power to you bro.”

After criticism from Sena, Sood met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray along with state Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray and state Fisheries Minister Aslam Shaikh at Matoshree.

Sood said that from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, every party has supported his efforts to help the stranded migrants reach their homes. The actor expressed his gratitude towards the state government for supporting him.
