Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday expressed shock over the killing of a ‘sadhu’ in Nanded district and demanded severe punishment for the accused.

“Incident of brutal murder of a Sadhu and other Sevekari in Nanded district is shocking and painful. My heartfelt tributes (sic),” senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis tweeted.

Fadnavis further urged the Maharashtra government that all accused in the murder should be arrested immediately. He demanded the state government to ensure that the accused are severely punished.

The police informed that the body of the deceased was found at his ashram in Nanded’s Urmi late on Saturday night. The police have ruled out the communal angle in the murder case and said that the deceased ‘sadhu’ and the accused are of the same community.

“The deceased and the murder accused are of the same community. There is no communal angle in the murder case,” said Vijaykumar Magar, Superintendent of Police, Nanded.

The police further informed that the accused has a criminal record and was arrested. 10 years ago, he was a co-accused in a murder case and he has been booked in a molestation case earlier.

Two persons, including a sadhus, were found dead in Nanded district of Maharashtra. The dead body of the deceased - Swami Shivacharya Rudra (33) of Pashupati Math in Nanded - was found in his ashram, ANI reported, while the body of Bhagwan Shinde (50) was found in a nearby Zila Parishad school.

The officials have claimed that Sainath Langote (25) - a local villager and follower of the sadhu - was behind the two murders and the motive behind the same was robbery.

Earlier, three men including two sadhus and their driver were killed by an angry mob in a Palghar village. They were travelling towards Surat to attend the funeral of common acquaintance and were killed by the mob on suspicion that they were child-kidnappers and organ harvesters.
