Former Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Ashok Chavan has been tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. Chavan is a senior Congress leader and has been the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. 

According to sources, Chavan is said to have contracted the coronavirus infection from his driver. Chavan becomes the second minister in Uddhav Thackeray’s cabinet to test positive for COVID-19. 

Chavan has been admitted in a hospital for the treatment. On Sunday, Chavan underwent the test for COVID-19 and was tested positive. However, it has learned that Ashok Chavan will be transferred to Mumbai from Nanded for further treatment. Sources inform that Chavan has left for Mumbai and will reach here by tonight.  

Earlier, Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad was tested positive for the coronavirus on April 19 and was admitted to the Fortis hospital in Mulund after he complained of fever and uneasiness. However, Awhad was discharged after making full recovery on May 10.

Maharashtra witnessed 3,041 fresh COVID-19 cases in the state on Sunday, taking the number of cases in the state to 50,231. The active cases in Maharashtra are 33,988 while 1,196 people were recovered on the same day.
