Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said that it was wrong to impose the lockdown suddenly and it would be equally wrong to lift it all together and all at once.

While addressing the citizens through social media, Uddhav Thackeray said that the lockdown the state government was planning for the future and the lockdown is being lifted gradually. The industries, shops and offices are being opened up slowly, he added.

“If the lockdown is lifted immediately, it would be a disaster for the people of Maharashtra. There are still people who don’t understand the seriousness of the COVID-19 crisis. The virus is multiplying as we have seen a sharp rise in cases,” Uddhav Thackeray said.

The Chief Minister also spoke about taking precautions and staying away from monsoon ailments while stating that the state government was taking steps to open up things, gradually.

The Chief Minister informed that the Maharashtra government wants to make air travel operational but needs additional time to plan. The state government is yet to chalk out rules for domestic air travellers coming in Maharashtra.

Earlier on Saturday, the Maharashtra government refused any flights in the state and especially in Mumbai. The state government said that it will only consider flights for an emergency. The centre had announced that domestic air travel will resume from May 25.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had also expressed his displeasure over the decision to resume flights from Mumbai. He said that it was impossible to have autos/cabs/buses ply in current circumstances in red zones and mere thermal scanning of passengers was not sufficient.

Meanwhile, hours after the CM’s address on Sunday, Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik said the state government has agreed to allow 25 takeoffs and 25 landings every day for domestic flights from Mumbai.

The Maharashtra minister further said that this number will increase gradually and the guidelines for the same will be issued soon.
