A day after interacting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday asked the district officials to submit an exit strategy or roadmap for the lockdown which will end on May 17.

The Chief Minister told the district authorities to come up with an exit strategy of their respective areas from the national lockdown and submit the same by May 15. In a meeting with Divisional Commissioners and district collectors via video conference, Uddhav Thackeray sought suggestions for the regulations which were needed to be imposed in these areas as a part of containment zone strategy.

“Each district authority should submit an exit plan for the lockdown situation after May 12. Suggestions for the regulations in containment zones should also be given. The district authorities should ensure that the restrictions in the containment zones are followed strictly and the virus should not spread outside them,” Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray told the officials.

During his interaction, Thackeray further said that the district borders will not be opened while relaxing the lockdown in the coming days. The district authorities have to submit an exit plan from the lockdown by May 15 and the same will be submitted to the centre.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the chief ministers of all states via video conferencing and asked them to submit their suggestions on opening the economy along with their recommendations for an exit from the lockdown by May 15.

While interacting with the PM earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray suggested that more relaxations in the lockdown should be announced rather than lifting it altogether. He also pointed out the studies show that COVID-19 cases are likely to peak in June or July.

“The Prime Minister should show us specific and concrete direction on lockdown, the states will implement the same,” Thackeray told PM Modi.

India has been under lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic since March 25. The lockdown 2.0 was announced on April 14 while the third nationwide lockdown was placed by centre till May 17.

The lockdown 4.0 will also be imposed nationwide but it will have new rules and will be completely redesigned, PM Modi said on Tuesday night while adding that the details of the same will be announced before May 18.
