In a sudden and major cabinet shuffle of Union Ministers’ portfolios on Monday, Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal has been provided with the auxiliary responsibility of Union Finance Ministry till Arun Jaitley recovers. Goyal also holds the power ministry in the cabinet.
Union Minister Smriti Irani has been reallocated to handle the textile ministry and Minister of State (MoS) of youth affairs and sports, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, will be the new Information and Broadcast (I&B) minister with independent charge - replacing Smriti Irani.
BJP National Vice President SS Ahluwalia was given the charge of MoS for the department of electronics. Earlier, Ahluwalia was sworn-in as the Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation.
Arun Jaitley, 65, underwent a four-hour long kidney transplant surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) today. He was admitted to hospital on Saturday.
