After the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, several leaders from opposition parties including Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) shifted their loyalties to either Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

The biggest blow to Congress was after senior leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil resigned from the party and his legislator post. Patil was the leader of the opposition (LoP) in the Maharashtra legislative assembly.

NCP can also face a similar situation with speculations suggesting that party’s senior leader Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar, who is also the Maharashtra legislative council chairman, may join BJP ahead of the upcoming state assembly polls.

Nimbalkar, who is known as a close aide to NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, might leave the party due to his disappointment and anger with Satara's NCP MP Udayanraje Bhosale.
