Fresh details have emerged in connection with the plane crash that claimed the life of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, suggesting that a security and visibility warning had been issued prior to the aircraft’s attempted landing.

According to reports, air traffic authorities had alerted the crew about poor visibility conditions near Baramati airport on the morning of January 28. Despite the warning, the chartered aircraft reportedly proceeded with the landing attempt.

Sources indicate that Ajit Pawar was scheduled to attend multiple political programmes and sign an important agreement in Baramati, and there may have been urgency to land as planned. However, aviation norms clearly state that the final decision to land rests solely with the pilot, based on safety assessments.

The Learjet 45 aircraft, which was flying from Mumbai to Baramati, crashed while attempting to land, killing all five people on board, including Pawar.

The incident has triggered discussions in aviation and political circles about whether operational pressure played any role in the decision-making process. Authorities have emphasised that conclusions should only be drawn after the completion of the official investigation.

It has also come to light that the same aircraft was involved in a previous accident in September 2023, raising additional questions about its operational history. Officials, however, maintain that all aspects including weather conditions, aircraft fitness, and human factors will be examined thoroughly.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting a detailed probe into the crash.
