Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Deshpande said voter registration for graduates constituencies of Mumbai and Konkan divisions of the Legislative Council and teacher constituencies of Nashik and Mumbai divisions will begin from September 30. In this regard, a meeting of representatives of all registered recognised political parties was organised under the chairmanship of Deshpande.


The tenure of these constituencies will end next year i.e. in July 2024. For teacher and graduate constituencies, voters have to re-register every time. In this backdrop, the first phase of voter registration for these constituencies will begin from September 30. This phase will end on November 6. After this, voter registration will also be done in the second phase from November 23 November to December 9, 2023.


For graduate constituencies, graduates who are ordinary residents of the respective constituencies and have obtained a degree or equivalent degree from a recognised university in India for at least 3 years before November 1, 2023 are eligible for voter registration. Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Deshpande said that the degree certificate or mark sheet will also be accepted as proof of degree. If there is any change in the name of the voter, the application should also be accompanied by Gazette, Marriage Registration Certificate or relevant legal proof. It will be optional for the voter to mention Aadhaar number in the application and the application will be rejected if the Aadhaar number is not provided.

Political parties can also print and distribute voter registration forms themselves in the prescribed format. The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer is running a public awareness campaign for maximum registration of graduate and teacher voters. He also informed that the graduates will reach universities, colleges, schools, various organisations, government, semi-government offices, banks and apply to register their names.


The public notice for this voter registration will be published on Saturday, September 30, 2023, the first re-publication of the newspaper notice will be on Monday October 16, the second re-publication will be on Wednesday October 25. Claims and objections will be accepted from November 18 and 19 to 6, 2023. Then on Monday November 20, manuscripts will be prepared and the voter list will be printed.


These proforma voter lists will be published on November 23. Claims and objections will be accepted from November 23 to December 9, 2023. After this, the list will be printed after settling the claims and objections by December 25 and the final list will be published on December 30. Along with this, the date of promulgation of draft electoral rolls under the Brief Revision Program of Electoral Rolls of Assembly Constituencies-2024. The information is that it will be organised on October 27, 2023 instead of October 17.
