Maharashtra Assembly Election: Will Congress field three-time corporator Asif Zakaria from Bandra?

Amid preparations for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, Congress may field party leader Asif Zakaria from Bandra. Zakaria is a three-time Congress corporator.

Congress leader Urmila Matondkar, who lost 2019 Lok Sabha election from Mumbai North constituency against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gopal Shetty might try her luck in the upcoming assembly polls. 

Along with Matondkar, senior Congress leader Kripa Shankar Singh can also be fielded from the Bandra seat. However, sources inform that Zakaria has strong chances of contesting the upcoming polls from Bandra assembly constituency.

The assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled in mid-October this year and State Election Commission (SEC) can announce the poll dates after Ganesh Chaturthi. Amid all this, the political parties – ruling and opposition – have started preparation for the upcoming elections.
