According to the latest reports, on Tuesday, June 21, former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha was selected as the joint Opposition's candidate for the presidential election slated to be conducted on July 18.

The announcement was made by senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh who elaborated on the opposition parties had unanimously decided that Sinha will be the common candidate for the Presidential elections of the Opposition.

Moreover, NCP chief, Sharad Pawar stated that they will be filing the nomination for the presidential elections on June 27 at 11.30 am.

Based on accounts, on Tuesday morning, Sinha had quit the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party led by Mamata Banerjee

Sinha took to Twitter to say, "I am grateful to Mamataji for the honour and prestige she bestowed on me in the TMC. Now a time has come when for a larger national cause I must step aside from the party to work for greater opposition unity. I am sure she approves of the step."

Earlier, Pawar, National Congress (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah, and Mahatma Gandhi's grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi, were approached by the Opposition parties. All three of them, however, turned down the offer.

Moreover, Pawar requested the opposition to not repeatedly float his name despite his refusal. Narratives speculate that in a meeting with NCP leaders at his residence he voiced that his crucial task is to see to it that the MVA government in the state finishes its complete 5-year term.

There is presently a political storm brewing in the state, with senior Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde taking 13 MLAs with him and staying at a hotel in Surat after the MLC elections.
