Mumbai- Maharashtra Consumer forum has decreed that city builders issue the mandatory property cards to housing societies. According to government rules, when a housing society is formed, it is mandatory to prepare conveyance and property card within 4 months. But, in order to avoid spending lakhs of rupees in making property cards, builders often avoid doing so, saving money in the process and ensuring that ownership stays with them. However, this is detrimental to the societies. Ghatkopar’s Ambika Siddhu society approached the Maharashtra Consumer forum in 2009, which gave a verdict in the society’s favour asking the builder to prepare the property card in the next four months. “The builder will be prosecuted if he does not follow the orders,” said society advocate Vinod Sampat.
