The benchmark indices closed at a record closing high, backed by strong gains in IT and Real Estate stocks.
At close, the BSE Sensex was up 255 points or 0.48 per cent at 53,158.85, while the Nifty was up 70 points or 0.44 per cent at 15,924.20.
About 1791 shares advanced, 1678 shares declined and 258 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, HCL Tech (5.08 per cent), Larsen (4.19 per cent), Tech Mahindra (3.15 per cent), Wipro (2.53 per cent) and Hindalco (2.50 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while ONGC (-3.23 per cent), Eicher Motors (-1.20 per cent), Coal India (-0.98 per cent), Bharti Airtel (-0.87 per cent) and M&M (-0.80 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Realty emerged as the top sectoral gainer, closing 4.20 per cent higher, followed by Nifty IT which gained more than 1 per cent, while Nifty Auto (-0.40 per cent), Nifty Media (-0.35 per cent), Nifty PSU Bank (-0.33 per cent) and Nifty Pharma (-0.27 per cent) ended in red.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose 0.31 per cent and 0.43 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: Nifty looks positive for a short term perspective. If it closes above 16,000 we can see the bullish targets of 16,100 and 16,200 in the near term. On the downside 15,850 – 15,800 will act as strong support for the index.
