Nifty and Sensex ended higher after a volatile trading session on July 7.
At close, the Sensex was up 193.58 points or 0.37 per cent at 53,054.76 and the Nifty was up 61.40 points or 0.39 per cent at 15,879.90.
About 1737 shares have advanced, 1372 shares declined and 136 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Tata Steel (4.40 per cent), JSW Steel (2.56 per cent), Bajaj Finserv (2.34 per cent), Hindalco (2.15 per cent) and UPL (1.69 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Titan Company (-2.02 per cent), ONGC (-1.32 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (-0.87 per cent), SBI Life Insurance (-0.86 per cent) and Shree Cements (-0.80 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, Realty and Metal indices rose 2 per cent each, while selling was seen in the Auto and Oil & Gas stocks.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.58 per cent and 0.38 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: Nifty managed to close in green but was unable to cross, 15,900 on a closing basis. If it manages to do that, it should be heading towards 16,200 level.
