The benchmark indices ended at a record closing high.
At close, the Sensex was up 209.69 points or 0.38 per cent at 55,792.27 and the Nifty was up 51.60 points or 0.31 per cent at 16,614.60.
About 1090 shares have advanced, 2009 shares declined and 111 shares are unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Tata Consumer Products (3.82 per cent), Wipro (3.40 per cent), Tech Mahindra (3.35 per cent), Nestle (2.39 per cent) and HUL (2.37 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while JSW Steel (-2.28 per cent), Adani Ports (-2.02 per cent), Tata Motors (-1.98 per cent), Coal India (-1.94 per cent) and IndusInd Bank (-1.84 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, Nifty IT and FMCG indices were up 1-2.5 percent, while metal and PSU Bank indices fell 2 percent each.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.71 per cent and 0.30 per cent each respectively.
Author’s View: If the market is unable to sustain the level of 16500, the market witness lower levels of 16350. The momentum indicators like RSI and MACD showing signs of reversal in the market.
