The benchmark indices ended flat post a volatile trading session.
At close, the Sensex was down 2.56 points or 0.00 per cent at 51,934.88 and the Nifty was down 7.90 points or 0.05 per cent at 15,574.90.
About 1303 shares have advanced, 1782 shares declined and 119 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Adani Ports (3.72 per cent), ONGC (3.48 per cent), Bajaj Finance (2.79 per cent), SBI (1.93 per cent) and Bajaj Auto (1.10 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while JSW Steel (-2.31 per cent), Tata Steel (-2.20 per cent), ICICI Bank (-1.91 per cent), Grasim (-1.81 per cent) and Ultratech Cement (-1.59 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, except Nifty Pharma (0.04 per cent), Nifty IT (0.11 per cent), Nifty Infra (0.11 per cent) and Nifty Energy (0.34 per cent) all other sectoral indices ended in red. Nifty Metal (-0.78 per cent), Nifty Bank (-0.53 per cent) and Nifty Realty (-0.52 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
The BSE Midcap index ended flat while Smallcap index declined 0.31 per cent.
Author’s View: Traders can consider to build fresh long positions on dips and mild corrections. Nifty is likely to achieve 15,900 – 16,000 with a strong support at 15,300.
