The benchmark indices ended near day’s low after a volatile trading session. Metal & IT stocks dragged the benchmark indices.
At close, the Sensex was down 282.63 points or 0.54 per cent at 52,306.08 and the Nifty was down 85.80 points or 0.54 per cent at 15,687.
About 1335 shares have advanced, 1629 shares declined and 116 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, Maruti Suzuki (2.30 per cent), Titan Company (1.45 per cent), Bajaj Finserv (1.24 per cent), ONGC (1.07 per cent) and M&M (0.87 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Adani Ports (-3.26 per cent), Wipro (-2.95 per cent), Divis Labs (-1.50 per cent), JSW Steel (-1.44 per cent) and Larsen (-1.33 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, except Nifty Auto (0.46 per cent) all the other sectoral indices ended in red. Nifty Metal (-1.13 per cent), Nifty IT (-0.93 per cent) and Nifty Energy (-0.67 per cent) were the top losing sectors for the day.
The BSE midcap and smallcap indices were down 0.26 per cent and 0.43 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: The technical indicators suggest volatile movement in the market in the range of 15,500 – 15,900.
