The benchmark indices ended in red. Metal stocks dragged the index.
At close, the BSE Sensex was down 271 points or 0.51 per cent at 52,501.98, and the Nifty was down 102 points or 0.64 per cent at 15,767.55.
About 1400 shares had advanced and 1767 shares declined.
On the Nifty 50 index, Tata Consumer Products (2.28 per cent), NTPC (1.70 per cent), Nestle (1.59 per cent), ONGC (1.08 per cent) and HUL (0.67 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Adani Ports (-7.24 per cent), Tata Steel (-2.74 per cent), JSW Steel (-2.72 per cent), Hindalco (-2.71 per cent) and Power Grid Corp (-2.20 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, except Nifty IT (0.25 per cent) and Nifty FMCG (0.58 per cent), all other sectoral indices ended in red. Nifty Metal (-2.85 per cent), Nifty Realty (-1.26 per cent) and Nifty Infra (-1.20 per cent) were the top losing sectors for the day.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down 0.95 per cent and 0.68 per cent respectively.
Author’s View: Nifty closed, near its important support level at 15,750. If this level is broken we may see Nifty moving towards 15,650 – 15,600. On the flip side we may see a decent bounce back if Nifty sustains above 15,750.
