Nifty Ends Over 15,750 and Sensex Jumps More Than 300 Points

The benchmark indices ended higher led by IT stocks. Smallcap and Midcap indices underperformed.

At close, the Sensex was up 392.92 points or 0.75 per cent at 52,699.00 and the Nifty was up 103.50 points or 0.66 per cent at 15,790.50.

About 1415 shares have advanced, 1717 shares declined and 135 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Infosys (3.73 per cent), TCS (3.44 per cent), Tech Mahindra (2.23 per cent), JSW Steel (2.03 per cent) and Asian Paints (1.87 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Reliance (-2.35 per cent), Coal India (-1.38 per cent), IOC (-1.28 per cent), Adani Ports (-1.22 per cent) and ONGC (-1.09 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except Nifty Pharma (-0.36 per cent), Nifty Infra (-0.58 per cent), Nifty Realty (-0.76 per cent) and Nifty Energy (-1.35 per cent) all the other sectoral indices ended in green. Nifty IT (2.79 per cent), Nifty Metal (0.57 per cent) and Nifty Financial Service (-0.55 per cent) were the top performing sectors for the day.

The BSE midcap and smallcap indices were down 0.51 per cent and 0.22 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: Nifty looks positive in the short term. If it sustains above 15,800 it may gain momentum leading to an upside till 16,100 – 16,200.
