Stock Market Highlights: Sensex, Nifty end flat

The benchmark indices ended flat on February 12 after a volatile session. Banking shares outperformed.

At close, the Sensex was up 12.78 points or 0.02 per cent at 51,544.30 and the Nifty was down 10 points or 0.07 per cent at 15,163.30. About 1400 shares have advanced, 1520 shares declined and 159 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Adani Ports (4.18 per cent), ICICI Bank (2.69 per cent), Axis Bank (1.39 per cent) and Infosys (1.33 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while ITC (-3.97 per cent), GAIL (-2.60 per cent), Sun Pharma (-2.56 per cent) and ONGC (-2.46 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, Nifty Bank, IT, Realty, Financial Service and PSU Bank ended in green while Nifty Metal, Pharma, Consumption, Infra, Auto, Energy and FMCG ended in red.

The BSE Smallcap index was down 0.02 per cent and Midcap index was up 0.06 per cent.

Author’s View: Range bound movement continued in Nifty. The overall range between 15,000 – 15,250 remains intact. Closing below or above the above-mentioned range is going to decide the future movement of the index. However, our view still remains bullish on the index.
