The Benchmark Indices End At A New All Time High

The benchmark indices ended at a record closing high backed by strong buying in IT, Metal and Pharma counters.

At close, the Sensex was up 174.29 points or 0.33 per cent at 52,474.76 and the Nifty was up 61.60 points or 0.39 per cent at 15,799.

About 1744 shares have advanced, 1368 shares declined and 138 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, Tata Steel (3.94 per cent), Coal India (3.93 per cent), JSW Steel (3.60 per cent), Dr. Reddy’s Labs (3.04 per cent) and Hindalco (2.01 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Larsen (-1.07 per cent), HDFC Life (-0.96 per cent), SBI Life Insurance (-0.95 per cent), IndusInd Bank (-0.90 per cent) and Divi’s Labs (-0.87 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the Sectoral front, Nifty Bank (-0.24 per cent), Nifty Infra (-0.03 per cent), Nifty Realty (-1.04 per cent), Nifty Financial Service (-0.17 per cent) and Nifty FMCG (-0.24 per cent) ended in red, while Nifty Metal (2.69 per cent), Nifty Pharma (1.05 per cent), Nifty IT (1.51 per cent), Nifty Auto (0.40 per cent) and Nifty Energy (0.41 per cent) ended in green.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 0.14 per cent and 0.40 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: 15,800 will act as resistance for the market, but the technical factors support a positive move. Our next target on Nifty is 15,900.
