On Saturday, October 2, 2021, India will pay homage to the Father of the Nation - Mahatma Gandhi. It will be his 152nd birth anniversary. Gandhi Jayanti, as known to all, is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. 

He is known as the pioneer of India's independence movement. Born in Porbandar, India, his ideology of the non-violent civil disobedience movement has influenced the world. He is commonly known as "Bapu" (father).

Not only that, he even conducted a salt march (Dandi Satyagraha) to oppose the salt law introduced by British rule. Along with other national leaders, he had organized many other boycotts against the Britishers but peacefully, resorting to non-violence.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, we have listed down five movies you can watch based on Gandhi: 

1. Gandhi (1982):

The India-United Kingdom production, directed and produced by Richard Attenborough, the movie is a biographical film based on Mahatma Gandhi and his struggle to win Independence for India. The movie received a lead of 11 nominations at the Oscars and won eight of them, including Best Picture, Actor, and Director.

2. Sardar (1993) :

This is a biographical movie based on the life of Sardar Vallabhai Patel; however, the movie makes references to Mahatma Gandhi. It also depicts the dynamics between Gandhi and Patel. Actor Annu Kapoor plays the role of Gandhi in the film.

3. The Making of Mahatma (1996) :

Based on the book The Apprenticeship of a Mahatma by Fatima Meer, is directed by one of the renowned directors, Shyam Benegal. The film is based on the early life of Mahatma Gandhi during his 21 years in South Africa.

4. Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006) :

Though the movie is not based on Gandhi, the comedy-drama revolves around the Gandhian values of kindness and love to help society. It was directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

5. Dear Friend Hitler (2011) :

Starring Neha Dhupia and Raghubeer Yadav, the movie is based on the letters written by Mahatma Gandhi to Adolf Hitler during the second world war asking him to stop the violence.
