It’s rightly said that children are the torchbearers of change. Acting on the thought and proving it right once again is a school in Borivali which has manifested the change in support of a good cause. Voicing their opinion on the menace of plastic use, the students of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan International School performed a street play in and around Borivali on Monday, July 30.

The act included students from Class IX and Class X who pulled off the performance with their beguiling charm. The venues were thoughtfully planned, namely Madhav Garden, Mahila Adhar Centre, Ekta Garden and Borivali Railway Station. The teachers and the students teamed up to support the thought of Refuse, Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.

The street play received a warm response from the bystanders and passers-by who watched the students perform in rapt attention.

“The experience of performing the play outside the school premises gave the students a sense of self-satisfaction and exposure”, said school Principal Manisha Arondekar, who had several tales to tell about how conscious students in the school are when it comes to plastic use.

Students at the school are taught to make paper and cloth bags in their art and craft classes and such activities have gained momentum even more since the Plastic ban came into effect.

"Children are the best medium to spread awareness. They are the future citizens of the country. Hence when they take up serious issues with an environmental significance, like Plastic ban, they message is conveyed has a greater impact on the society as everybody loves to watch kids performing." Manisha Arondekar, Principal, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan International School.

The school had also celebrated International Yoga day last month with great zest with inter-community participation.
