Ashish Shelar to be a part of India's 16-member 'Mission Olympic Cell' committee

Member of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) from Maharashtra and the former President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Ashish Shelar, in a recently decided meeting, was appointed as the Member of the Mission Olympic Cell. As per reports, he will be a part of the 16-member committee formed for selecting and taking important decisions for the upcoming Olympics in Paris and Los Angeles. The committee will be a part of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).

As per reports, the scheme has been launched by the Government of India (GoI) and the committee has been selected to ensure effective plans are made for India’s excellence in sports. The cell has also been directed to take decisions regarding improving facilities for athletes and budding players. Decision taken by the committee on behalf of TOPS will be directed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GoI.

Authorities selected for the committee will be in charge of selecting the athletes for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2028. Young talent will be selected for the Los Angeles 2028 development group and the cell will the responsible to set up targets for the athletes and ensure the performance and preparation of the budding players increases over the next few years.

Besides Ashish Shelar, the committee will also include other members from the Sports Authority of India, Indian Olympic Association, Athletics Federation of India, Wrestling Federation of India, Archery Association of India, and Boxing Federation of India. Furthermore, authorities have confirmed that the committee will include world renowned athletes who have won accolades for India in the field of football, athletics, shooting, badminton, hockey, sports science, table tennis, wrestling, shooting and other sports

BJP leader Ashish Shelar in the past has also been the President of the Mumbai District Football Association and the Jump Rope Federation of India. He has also played a significant role in the Education Ministry during the BJP government led by Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra.
