TN’s Muthaiyya drew the match against Tazakistan’s only grandmaster

The 10th edition of the Mumbai Mayor’s Cup International Open Chess Tournament 2017 started with a massive participation. This tournament which hosts a huge number of international players and Grand Masters from around the world saw 6 women Grand Masters and 14 International Grand Masters participation this year. This tournament provides a big entrepreneur platform to the budding chess players which get the required exposure in international games. For the past nine years, Mumbai mayor has been supporting the event which makes the event grand in its own way.

The best game was of Tamil Nadu’s Muthaiyya who gave a tough fight to Tazakistan’s only grand master Farrukh Amonatov by drawing a match in Tenth Mumbai Mayor Trophy in International Chess Championship. And on another table, India’s grandmaster Diptayan Ghosh defeated Tamil Nadu’s Kartik Venkatraman.

The competition took place at Bandra’s Mount Litera International School auditorium where Mumbai mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar inaugurated the competition. Along with India, players from other 14 countries had participated in an International Chess competition. The tournament was inaugurated with the Mayor’s first move in the game of chess against the Women Grand Master and Asian Women Chess Champion, Bhakti Kulkarni.
