Former international table tennis player, Mamta Prabhu, coming out of forced retirement (in 2012) after almost five years, won her second title of the season, beating title favourite Ashlesha Trehan 4-2 in the women’s singles final of the Mumbai Suburban District Table Tennis Championships held at Khar Gymkhana on Thursday, October 12, 2017.
Earlier this season, she had won the JVPGC-All Mumbai Ranking title last month.

Mamta, who had represented the country in the Asian, Commonwealth and many other international tournaments for a number of years, used her experience to the hilt to subdue Ashlesha in a tensely fought tie that saw the Dena Bank player emerging victorious with an 11-9, 13-15, 13-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3 scoreline.
For unseeded collegian Viren Patel, it was quite a memorable day as he knocked out second-seeded Bhavitvya Shah 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 5-11, 4-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5 to clinch the men’s singles title.
Sharing the final day’s honours, were Srushti Haleangadi and Reagan Albuquerque, as they ended with a double each. Both won their respective youth and junior singles finals with a commanding display.
