Thane International Master Nubair Shah Sheikh recently bagged a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games Chess Championship held at New Delhi. In this competition, 661 chess participants from 18 different countries were involved. At the end of the sixth round of the seven-round tournament, Nubair Shah along with Krishna Tejas was on 5 points.

He defeated Krishna Tejas with an aggressive approach after which Krishna accepted defeat, however, Sheikh was limited to silver by a tie-break. Last year, Sheikh had won a gold medal in the same category.

Nubair Shah also made an impression in the senior category. In the five matches, she bagged four wins and scored 6 points. M. H. Nubarshah, who was studying in Saboo Siddique Engineering College, had tied up with experienced chess players like Grandmaster Praveen Dhepese, Grandmaster Lalitabu and Grandmaster Sundararajan Kidambi.
