Mumbai- Defending Champions Mumbai Maharathis lost to NCR Punjab Royals 4-3 in a close encounter at the KD Jadhav Stadium in the second edition of the Professional Wrestling League.
Mumbai won the toss, but lost their first encounter, Rahul Aware almost turned the tide on Vladimir Khinchegashvili of Punjab Royals, but could not match the experience of the Rio gold medalist Georgian wrestler.
Mumbai captain and Rio Olympics gold medallist Erica Wiebe drew level in the next bout.
The next bout was even more intense as Mumbai's Pritam lost to Pankaj Rana 9-8. Mumbai Maharathis' co owner Harbhajan Singh was also present to cheer this team.
Mumbai lost in the 48 Kg Womens bout, 65Kg Mens bout, but Mumbai's Sarita salvaged some pride for Mumbai as she won her 58 Kg bout 2-1.
Though Mumbai fought hard in the next 3 bouts, they lost 3-4 to NCR Punjab Royals.
Punjab Royals' Nirmala Devi was adjudged the player of the day.
Mumbai Maharathis take on the UP Dangal on 7 January.
