On the occasion of Veer Savarkar Jayanti, a marathon had been organised in his memory. The Swatantryaveer Marathon 2019 was held on May 26, Sunday and Sachin Ghorote won the marathon. The winner was awarded ₹1,00,000 in cash along with a certificate.
The marathon began from Savarkar Rashtriya Memorial, Dadar at around 5:00 am on Sunday. The initiative was held for age groups ranging from 16 to 80-year-old runners. More than 2,000 participants had been a part of the marathon.
The Swatantryaveer Marathon 2019 had two categories, 5 km, and 10 km. The marathon of 5 km was held for the age groups 16-25, 26-35, 36-45, 46-55, and 56+ whereas the marathon of 10 km was held for age groups 17-27, 28-37, 38-47, 48-57, and 58+.
Meanwhile, the fund collected from the marathon fees will be donated to the army officials. The aim behind the initiative is to glorify the sacrifice of our soldiers.
