Although St. Stanislaus won the tournament, the players from Don Bosco were a tough opponent who were outplayed by one goal which ensured victory for St. Stanislaus.

St. Stanislaus High School, Bandra carved out a hard-fought 2-1 win against Don Bosco High School, Matunga in the final of the Inter-School Hockey Tournament, organised by the Mumbai Hockey Association Limited (MHAL) and played at the MHAL ground, Churchgate. The tournament was organized by MHAL as part of the Olympic Day celebrations.

In a keenly contested title clash, St. Stanislaus schoolboys made a positive start and opened the scoring when their captain Noah D’Mello found the net in the very fourth minute of play. The Bandra outfit continued to put pressure on the Don Bosco citadel and managed to double the lead when Kyle Justin hit the target in the 25th minute.

Despite those setbacks, Don Bosco fought on gamely and managed to cut the deficit through Chris Benson’s strike in the 27th minute. Thereafter, the Matunga lads worked hard to try and get another goal, but their efforts were blunted by some resolute defending from the Stanislaus defence.

In the semi-finals, Don Bosco romped to an easy 4-1 win against Children Academy, Malad and St. Stanislaus comfortably defeated Our Lady of Dolours HS, Marine Line 5-1.

Olympian Marcellus Gomes, ex-student of St. Stanislaus, Olympian Devinder Walmiki, former international Yuvraj Walmiki and the MHAL President, Mangha Singh Bakshi, Hon. Gen. Secretary, Ram Singh Rathore and other Managing Committee members were present to witness the match. 


Results

Boys final: St. Stanislaus, Bandra 2 (Noah D’Mello, Kyle Justin) beat Don Bosco, Matunga 1 (Chris Benson).
