Thane's young boxer, Rahul Singh won gold medal in the State Boxing Competition of Men's Group, at the MIT University in Loni-Kalbhor district of Pune. Rahul Singh, who is a member of Vinayak Boxing club at Titwala, beat Vicky Kumawat of Mumbai City in the final round of the 48-50 kg category and seized the gold medal.

Rahul Singh, who has been mentored by Thane's Milan Vaidya, has won all the matches in the group in the first round itself. He beat Pune’s Anshul Chavan in the first round. Later on, he sealed the match for Satara's Sumit Ghadghe with a strong punch and knocked him out in the first round. 

In the final, Vicky Kumawat was strongly knocked out and the umpires had to intervene to stop the first round and declare Rahul Singh the winner.

Rahul, who lives at Titwala, regularly travels to Thane at 6:00 am every day for training. He has shown discipline and commitment towards the game and his hard work has been rewarded. Rahul Singh’s coach, Milan Vaidya said that Rahul is the only boxer who represents Thane district and looks forward to represent India.
