Indian professionals look at their educational degrees as a gateway to a successful career. They invest time and money to acquire sought after degrees and certifications. However, a large majority of them lack the skills needed to navigate and succeed in the real world.

These life skills include how to make the most of your paycheck; how to stand up in the face of biases at the workplace; how to respond to the lack of a safe and conducive work environment. These issues may seem trivial at the first glance, but have a lasting impact on an individual’s personal and professional life.

Such issues and skills are not taught at educational institutions and are also not part of the community discourse, thus giving rise to a generation unaware and unequipped to deal with the challenges.

In order to address this wide gap in life skills education, India’s leading awareness experts Be.artsy has launched an EdTech platform ‘Be Your Own Shakti’ on Wednesday, February 9. It is a unique venture in India, aimed at taking life skills education far and wide via e-learning.

Be.artsy as an organisation is renowned for their awareness programmes on subjects like financial literacy, prevention of sexual harassment, bias training, and more. They have been in the awareness and life skills training domain for more than a decade.

They have emerged as a leader by partnering with India’s leading financial institutions such as National Stock Exchange, to implement financial literacy and awareness programmes for young professionals. Their clientele includes large corporates like

Pepsico, Tata Coffee, IndiGo Airlines, PwC, Reckitt Benckiser etc. as well as financial and educational institutions across the country.

'Be Your Own Shakti' will feature Be.artsy’s flagship programmes and courses. The course content comprises well-researched information validated by subject matter experts and packaged in a creative format - a hallmark of all of Be.artsy’s educational programmes. The content will be available in multiple languages and will be localised in its context. This is to make life skills education relevant and easily accessible to its audiences.

Shikha Mittal, Founder, Director Be.artsy, who made it to the Forbes India W-Power Trailblazers List 2019, explains the objective behind taking Be.artsy’s programmes online, “Before the pandemic struck, Be.artsy was actively involved in curating on-ground awareness programmes. Post pandemic, things came to a grinding halt and this made us sit back and think. I noticed that people had started facing new challenges within the confines of their homes during the lockdown. A lot of news about job losses and furloughs started to surface along with increased violence against women.”

Shikha adds, “That is when we realised that we now had the opportunity to conduct our awareness programmes through a dedicated online EdTech platform for wider reach and ease of delivery. It is the first and the only platform of its kind!”

Talking about what makes the platform unique, Shikha explains, “The time is now ripe to broad-base our efforts at making young professionals aware of how to take control of their lives by acquiring these life skills. We are addressing societal and professional inadequacies appropriately with the use of technology and leveraging the power of community learning. It is what Be Your Own Shakti is all about and this is what makes us unique.”

The platform will make a staggered launch of its online programmes; in phase-one, it will focus on subscriber-driven growth for its learning programmes. In phase-two, it will facilitate cohort-based learning, resulting in cause-based communities across the country. Be Your Own Shakti plans to impart life skills to one million people over the next three years.
