With the nearing of Diwali, about one lakh Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) workers are worried as their salaries for the month of October will be delayed after August and September in the wake of Covid-19.

However, the employee unions have decided that ST workers will stage agitation in front of their houses on November 9 with their families, just a few days ahead of the festival.

Considering the Covid-19 situation, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided not to impose a temporary hike in bus fares in November.

Even after resuming the bus services from June, the number of passengers and revenue has not increased. The pre-lockdown income of Rs 22 crore has now come down to Rs 7 crore. As a result, the financial condition of the corporation has deteriorated and it has to calculate the expenditure on the funds received from the government.

The stagnant funds from the state government, the lengthy process of getting loans from banks are likely to lead to delays in salaries.

The salary of July was received in October from the funds provided by the state government. Until now, August and September wages are not paid. The corporation is also ready to take loans from banks to cover salaries and other expenses but that process is getting delayed. As a result, the October salary will also be halted.

Railway employees will get INR 17,975 and BEST employees will get Rs 10,100. But ST employees have to wait for salaries apart from other grants.
