Recently the commuters had organised a rail roko protest over revised train timings. After this agitation, Western Railways has decided to continue with the existing timing of a morning train from Dahanu to Churchgate as requested by the people.

The 30-minute long protest started at Palghar station in the early morning at 5:15 am on Wednesday, December 2. Soon the pictures of the protest went viral and the passengers at Kelwe Road and Saphale too got on to the railheads.

On Wednesday morning, December 3, commuters of Mumbai local resorted to an impromptu rail roko protest after the Western Railway cancelled the first local train of the day.

As per the revised timing, Western Railway’s Churchgate-bound local which used to leave at 4:40 am would depart at 5:40 am, while the Dahanu-Virar train would leave at 7:34 am instead of 5:40 am. The timing of Virar-Dahanu and Churchgate-Dahanu trains were not changed and they would leave at 5 am and 9:10 am respectively.

However, now Western Railway’s has gone back to its original timings. 

According to an official, an FIR has been registered by Palghar GRP against unidentified persons under sections 142, 143, 149 (unlawful assembly) of IPC, Disaster Management Act and State Covid-19 Regulation Act, and Section 174 (obstructing running of the train) of Railway Act.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials had said that they will be closely monitoring the cases and accordingly, a decision on resuming suburban services for all commuters will be taken by mid-December.
