Under the proposed model, meals on domestic and short-haul international flights may no longer be included in the ticket price. Passengers will have the option to either opt for meals at an additional cost or skip them to pay a lower fare.
Officials indicated that this move could reduce ticket prices by over INR 250 for passengers who choose not to avail of meals.
The plan is part of the airline’s broader effort to manage rising operational costs and financial pressure. By separating services such as food from the ticket price, Air India aims to offer more flexible and affordable fare options, especially for price-sensitive travellers.
The change is expected to be implemented in the coming months and will primarily apply to shorter-duration flights, where many passengers may prefer lower fares over additional services.
