Railway Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off the inaugural train service from Goregaon to CSTM on the harbour line — which used to terminate at Andheri station — on March 29, 2018, which will be operational from April 1, 2018.

For now, as many as 42 train services will operate between Goregaon-CSTM and seven between Goregaon and Churchgate.

During the inauguration, Goyal also announced every three compartments of 70 local trains will be converted into an AC compartment which will be carried out in three phases.

Initially, first and second class compartment commuters will get to travel in an AC compartment and coaches will be different for both male and female commuters. These local trains will be functional for 200-300 trips on a daily basis.

Shiv Sena party workers protested at Goregaon railway station

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena party workers started shouting slogans against the Railway Minister at Goregaon station for not mentioning MLA Sunil Prabhu's name on the invitation list. The same had happened during the inauguration of Ram Mandir station when the Sena and BJP workers brawled with each other.

New escalators were installed at CSTM, Dockyard Road, Thane, Lonavla station and elevators were inaugurated at Borivali, Dadar (W), Dockyard Road, Wadala, Chembur, Lonavla station and FOB was inaugurated at Chuna-Bhatti to Virar. Along with this, solar panels have been installed at Ram Mandir and Santacruz station.

Prior to this inauguration, the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) had planned to commission the services up to Goregaon by June 2014 but later it was revised to December 2017.
