The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Budget for 2022-23, proposed a fresh grant of INR 800 crore for the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) which is INR 50 crore greater than the INR 750 crore set aside the previous year, highlighted accounts.

According to the latest reports, it has been claimed that a significant portion of this money will go into acquiring new AC electric buses, ameliorating computer experience, modernizing the depots along an intelligent transport management system for enhanced bus frequency.

It has also been reported that a provision of INR 5 crore has made proposed for a 100 per cent fare concession for the differently-abled community.

Apart from this, in the INR 45,949.21 crore budget for the 2022-23 financial year, the estimates were 17.70 per cent greater than the last fiscal.

One of the interesting components of the budget was a 100 per cent relief from the payment of property tax for flats measuring up to 500 sq ft of the carpet area. Municipal chief Iqbal Singh Chahal in his speech mentioned that nearly 16,14,000 citizens will get 100 per cent property tax relief.

Moreover, the BMC set aside a significant amount for education as well as pushing fire safety infrastructure in Mumbai. Additionally, for the much-discussed Mumbai Coastal Road Project a considerable INR 3,200 crore has been set aside.
