Starting today, BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) has announced new feeder routes for Mini/MIDI buses originating from areas like Andheri, Churchgate, CSMT, Dadar, Wadala, and more.

BEST also mentioned that it will work towards bringing connectivity to more areas including the suburbs as well as the city over the next few months. New buses will also run from Rani Laxmibai Chowk, Vesave/Yari Road Bus Station, Jogeshwari Bus Station, Oshiwara Depot, and Ballard Pier as per data published by BEST on Twitter.

Here is the complete list for the new route:

In November last year, BEST announced the removal of 1,063 older buses from its fleet by 2021. While this raised alarms among some BEST committee members, officials mentioned that this decision was taken in order to scrap older buses. However, the authorities decided to introduce new double-decker buses instead of scrapping them.

While Mumbai has a variety of options for commuters, BEST buses appear to be the best choice given the cost factor as well as the distances it can cover. Last year, BEST authorities slashed the prices for the minimum distance ticket (5km or more) to Rs 5 for non-AC buses and Rs 6 for AC buses. Passengers will only pay Rs 20 (non-AC) and Rs 25 (AC) for distances longer than 15km on these buses.

Some recent road repair works in South Mumbai have forced delays and route diversions for the buses. This has forced BEST buses to adapt quickly to changing traffic conditions, while also causing concerns for the commuters.
