BEST recovers 22 lakhs from ticketless commuters

There are many commuters who do ticketless travelling in a bus. The result of which, the BEST is going through a financial crisis. In order to cope up with a crisis, the BEST decided to take action against ticketless commuters by carrying out a special campaign. 

The campaign was run for four months i.e. January to April 2017 and recovered Rs. 2,37,751 by slapping a fine on 25,575 commuters. If we go by the section 460 (h) of BMC Act 1888, any commuter who denies paying fine is eligible for one month's police custody and a fine of Rs. 200 fine. The BEST officials have asked the commuters to avoid ticketless travelling and also to travel in a said kilometres.
