BEST suffers ₹112 crore loss; six lakh passengers have stopped commuting

This financial year, the BEST has suffered a loss of around ₹112 crore and  a drop in passengers by six lakh.

General Manager Surendra Bagade informed that the daily average of bus running had come down to 170 km per day from 180 km.

He added that other than a drop in the number of travelling passengers, faulty ticketing machines and road congestion due to infrastructure projects are causing major problems. Due to this, passengers are choosing other modes of transport.

According to Ravi Raja, BEST member, out of 3,300 buses in the fleet, only 2,900 are operational. He also added that to cater to more passengers, BEST should use social media.

However, as per members, though the BEST has around 10 lakh power consumers and more than 25 lakh passengers commuting per day, there are only 432 followers on Twitter.
