According to the latest reports, from Thursday, January 20, all bus e-tickets will be linked with the universal pass that acts as proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination.

Based on accounts, Manoj Varade, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) spokesperson elaborated on how considering the present coronavirus situation in Mumbai along with the need to ensure contactless transactions occur in the buses operating in the city, the BEST will be linking the "Chalo" mobile app for ticketing with the universal pass, January 20 onwards.

Varade was quoted by narratives elaborating on how when a passenger chooses to purchase a ticket by means of the app, it will be linked to the universal pass. This will then be verified by the ticketing machine with the bus conductor. He added that these passengers will not have to carry a physical copy of the universal pass.

Recently, the BEST had undertaken a drive to check the Universal Pass of the fully vaccinated passengers in buses as well as at stops in Mumbai and its suburbs. As a means of public transport, buses are usually flocked by crowds during the peak hours in the mornings and evenings.

Moreover, on December 21, BEST unveiled the ‘Chalo App’ and ‘Chalo Bus Card’. Some features of the initiative include Mobile Tickets and Passes, Live Bus Tracking, Live Arrival Time, Live Crowd Indicator and Tap to Pay Smart Card.
