Taking under consideration passenger's safety and security, this move is aimed to curtail and track any terrorist-related activities. Many people in the trains are drugged and robbed, however, due to the biometrics, it will be easier to track the criminals as all passengers travelling in the general compartment for long distance trains will have a token with a specified seat number.

Currently, the implementation of this move will be done at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT). Four biometric-machines will be set up at these stations which cost ₹5.4 lakhs.
