Western Railway (WR) started using plastic substitutes before the plastic ban was imposed by the Maharashtra government. Earlier, the food items offered to the commuters in trains departing from Mumbai was packed and served in plastic containers. Now, the WR has opted for an environmentally friendly solution.

Eco-friendly Packaging

WR took a brand new step towards discarding plastic this World Environment Day. It has started an initiative in three Rajdhani Express trains on an experimental basis. These trains serve food in eco-sustainable containers and bags (bio-digestible).

After these pseudo plastic bags are discarded, they easily disintegrate in the composting process. WR has assured that these bags will not cause any harm to the environment. Apart from this, lady officials from the WR’s Women’s Association distributed eco-friendly bags.
